First, host Cheng Hung-yi shows the Dec. 5, 2006 edition of the pan-blue, pro-unification China Times. (The election was Dec. 9.) The CT's take said the vote would go 43% for the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) guy, Huang Chun-ying, and 29% for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate, Chen Chu (female) -- a difference of 14 percentage points or approximately 150,000 votes, according to Prof. Lin, speaking offscreen.

I'm not sure which paper the second one is (the host later says that the previous ones were all from CT and UDN, so it's one of those). The article is about when President Chen Shui-bian's son returned to Taiwan ahead of the election and joined Chen Chu's campaign rally. CT claims this didn't help CC's chances, and that she'd lose by 12 percentage points.

Next, we see the front page from the pan-blue, pro-unification United Daily News. They predicted that CC would lose by "only" 9 percentage points. The fourth piece, from the China Times, says that CC is behind by 12 percentage points.

Fifth up is the pro-democracy Liberty Times -- the image you see in the preview icon. Huang protested to the LT, "Why doesn't your paper say the same as the others?" Huang claimed the LT was trying to influence the outcome. (That, my friends, would be the specialty of the pan-blues, who have controlled most of the media in Taiwan for the past 6 decades.) The LT's headline reads, "Chen Chu, Huang Chun-ying support levels nearly the same." Guess what. CC won by just 1,114 votes. (LT had it right, probably because they used real survey methods.)

At the September 15, 2007 "UN for Taiwan" rally in Kaohsiung, Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) is introduced to the crowd of half a million or so by DPP secretary Chen Ching-chun (陳景峻). President Chen begins addressing the crowd with the words "I love you all! I love Taiwan!" (Although you can see him on the big screen, he's kind of hidden behind the tree over at the right edge of the frame.)

The English-language media often calls President Chen "unpopular," but that lie is based upon biased pan-blue polls and fed to "reporters" by pan-blue politicians. Don't be fooled by the propaganda of stenographers such as Ralph Jennings (Reuters), Peter Enav (AP), Caroline Gluck (BBC), etc.
