About JOHN LENNON – IMAGINE

The song “Imagine” of John Lennon is an epic. In fact, very few songs have ever had such a huge impact. It’s not just a song now. It’s become quite a revolution, moving the world so many times since it was first released on October 11th 1971. In the US, it was released by Apple Records.

Just take a look at some of the accolades Imagine has received.

• BMI has named Imagine as one of the 100 most-performed songs of the 20th century.
• Recording Industry Association of America has ranked it at #30 in the list of the 365 Songs of the Century with historical significance.
• Rolling Stone has ranked it #3 in the list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”. Rolling Stone says that Imagine is the best work of John Lennon.
• Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has named it the greatest song in the past 100 years.
• Imagine has been played every year since 2005 just before the ball drops at New York’s Times Square on New Year’s eve.
• Many famous artists have their own recorded versions of the song. This includes Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Diana Ross and Joan Baez.
• Imagine has entered the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

John Winston Ono Lennon or simply John Lennon was an English singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known for being a founder member of “Beatles”. Imagine was co-produced by Lennon himself and Yoko Ono, and it was a part of the album by the same name. Lennon composed the song on his Steinway piano, which has also become epic.

In the song, Lennon asks people to “Imagine that there was no more religion, no more country, no more politics”. It’s virtually the Communist manifesto. However Lennon said that he was no communist or politician, and doesn’t belong to any movement. He said that he spoke of socialism, but not in the way it was practiced in Russia, China or elsewhere. Describing the song, Lennon said “Imagine is anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, and anti-capitalistic”.

There have been some criticisms of his views. Some religious groups were also upset with its lyrics, particularly the part where it says “Imagine there’s no heaven”. But it caught on with the public. Imagine went on to become a raging hit. It has been played thousands of times since 1971 and is played to this day even after more than 40 years. Imagine has been the best-selling single from his solo career. It reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and #1 on the RPM national singles chart in Canada. The LP also reached #3 on the UK chart. It’s the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful song of Lennon’s career, which is saying a lot actually, because he has given us many other memorable songs.

The three minute and fifteen seconds official video of Imagine has been seen almost 150 million times on YouTube. It has received close to a million Likes.
